Take a steam train ride to a skanzen

Vychylovka includes a skanzen of an old village, as well as a steam railway, which in the past was used to transport wood throughout the Orava region.

Today, Vychylovka is an interesting attraction, which begins with a half hour ride on the beautiful steam train.

The steam train takes you to the Skanzen in the middle of the woods, which includes a church, an old inn and a water mill.

Pribylina
The youngest open-air museum in Slovakia

The Skanzen at Pribylina is the youngest open-air museum in Slovakia. It was opened in 1991, following the construction of the Liptovska Mara Dam.

The buildings that are on display would have been flooded due to the dam, so they were relocated to create the museum.

The Skanzen includes a Gothic-Renaissance Manor House, the Virgin Mary's Early Gothic Church, a village school and many different types of houses belonging to smiths, cartwrights, shoemakers, and peasants.

20th of May to June: Monday - Sunday: 0900 - 1630 (last entry at 1530)

July to 15th of September: Monday - Sunday: 0900 - 1830 (last entry at 1730)

16th of September to October: Monday - Friday: 0900 - 1600 (last entry at 1500)

November to 19th of May: Monday - Friday: 0900 - 1530 (last entry at 1430)

Vlkolinec
Slovakia's UNESCO village

It is almost as if the village of Vlkolinec has been stuck in time for the last two hundred years. Such is the unspoilt beauty of this little village just outside of Ruzomberok, that in 1993 it was included in the List of World Cultural and Nature Heritage of UNESCO.

Today, Vlkolinec is one of the most visited and photographed localities in Slovakia, and is ideal for a wonderful, relaxing afternoon visit.
